Photovoltaics
Welcome!
Our group is dedicated to modern concepts of photovoltaic energy converters with potential for a beneficial cost structure. So-called thin film solar cells can achieve a significant cost advantage over crystalline silicon technologies by employment of appropriate film deposition techniques and by economical input of expensive semiconductor material.
In this field, which covers a broad part of material sciences, we focus on two approaches: (1) ambitious concepts of photovoltaic cells based on novel organic semiconductors and semiconducting nanocrystals, (2) already established and commerzialized solar energy converters made from chalcopyrite compound semiconductors.
Our activities include fundamental research in material science, material and device development & characterization and finally application-related problems of photovoltaics. Moreover, we jointly work on special bilateral projects together with partners from industry, universities and other research institutions. For universal treatment of our research projects we offer our competences along with well equipped labs with experimental techniques related to charge transport, photophysics and structure analysis.
